Hello fam! (That’s not just a greeting, it’s our name too.) We are excited to announce that we have officially integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) to add a layer of fairness and accountability to our new project that combines real world physical assets with digital NFTs!
At Hello fam!, we are releasing a collection of beautiful NFTs from fine artist Ha Yael that are physically backed by a case of 6 bottles of 750ml fine wine that we are producing and storing forever. Users can buy/sell/trade the NFTs while the wine ages well in a temperature-controlled, insured facility. At any time you can burn the NFT, reducing the supply, to redeem the wine for yourself.
Like many other NFT projects, our NFTs (called “Grape Fam”) are randomly generated by mixing and matching traits, so every single one is entirely unique. Not only will the digital image change, but the ingredients and process of creating the wine will also differ, hence the NFTs will be truly unique.
To handle that random generation and ensure its fairness (so we don’t give our friends the best ones), we rely on Chainlink VRF, a purpose-built randomness solution for smart contract applications.
What is VRF? It stands for Verifiable Random Function. Basically, the blockchain is terrible at generating random numbers so your code has to look outside for help. But pinging a centralized server is a security risk, as the server could lie to you and return a non-random number.
Instead, we have chosen to integrate Chainlink VRF to ensure that the random number used to choose NFT traits is provably random. Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node's pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof.
Our smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof. This provides users with automated and publicly verifiable proof directly on-chain that the randomness produced by Chainlink VRF was not tampered with or predicted by the oracle, outside entities, or the Hello fam! team.
"Hello fam! is thrilled to be an official integrator of Chainlink and we look forward to continuing our work with them and bringing a taste of the good life to the NFT world," stated Adam Ghahramani, co-founder of Hello fam!. “Chainlink VRF was a key piece of our NFT infrastructure as it ensures that each NFT is truly unique and can be verified by anyone in the world, creating probably rarity.”

About Hello fam!
Hello fam! is creating a collection of rarity-based NFTs ("Grape Fam") that are each backed by a case of wine, so you can buy/sell/trade the NFTs without worrying about storage or burn the NFT to claim the wine. Hello fam! is co-founded by Vinsent, which helps 100+ wineries sell to consumers, Adam Ghahramani, who runs one of the largest NFT communities in the world (Untamed Elephants), and Art Director Tiffany Wong, an Ex-Wine Spectator designer who's worked with 50+ wine and spirit brands. Hello fam! is minting August 31st, so join the Twitter, Newsletter, or Discord to get in on day one.
About Chainlink
Chainlink is the industry standard oracle network for powering hybrid smart contracts. Chainlink Decentralized Oracle Networks provide developers with the largest collection of high-quality data sources and secure off-chain computations to expand the capabilities of smart contracts on any blockchain. Managed by a global, decentralized community, Chainlink currently secures billions of dollars in value for smart contracts across decentralized finance (DeFi), insurance, gaming, and other major industries.
Chainlink is trusted by hundreds of organizations, from global enterprises to projects at the forefront of the blockchain economy, to deliver definitive truth via secure, reliable oracle networks.
